Remake of HPI (2021)
Synopsis
It follows Morgan, a single mother of three, and how, thanks to her exceptional mind, she can help solve a crime while rearranging the evidence during her shift as a nanny at the police department. American remake (English) of the French version HPI series (2021).. Despite her very high IQ, excellent memory and extensive knowledge of the arcana, Morgan makes a series of basic legal mistakes that anyone who has ever watched a show TV by law would know not to do them. In episode one, for example, she obtains a document from a locked safe in the suspect-victim’s law office that would never be admissible in court—illegally obtained evidence. It also could not be used to obtain other evidence – violating the legal doctrine of “fruit of the poisonous tree.” In episode 2, she has to be reminded to wear gloves before handling evidence at the crime scene, and in #3, she removes all the documented evidence from the police station, completely breaking the chain of custody and making everything she removed not let it here. admissible in a court of law..
just in a different package
I waited 4 episodes, giving plenty of chances for the show to prove itself. This is exactly the same formula for all ‘detective’, ‘cop’ or ‘legal’; I take shows. This is more in the "drama of light" comes than the more realistic shows, but it’s still the same formula. It’s “The Finder”, “Elsbeth”, “So Help Me Todd”, etc… If it’s “based on a French series”; it simply means that the French are perfectly capable of using the same tired and run-of-the-mill formula. USA shows rampant abuse, that’s all.
wash, rinse, repeat
Male + Female “detectives”; in the team, one is careless and aloof, the other serious and by the book, they clash, but in the end they support each other. The clues are MIRACULOUS in nature and many times a viewer would never be able to understand…and there is a problem…a series that did where the audience can’t figure out the outcome because they don’t I’m aware of the miraculous (and hidden) clues to come – but they were supposed to be there all along. which plays out similar to all the other cases… 2-5 minute closing of the main scene to add cliffhanger for next week.. So sick of this overused formula. The premiere of this type of series can be interesting because it is the setup for the main story..
which is hit or miss
but the pattern of the formula sets in at episode 2.. then repeats itself over and over for as long as the series is on – often the show is canceled by a lot before the main story reaches any resolution – i.e. the missing father in this series will NEVER have any answers or conclusion because it’s just a " phishing line" of the story to keep viewers hooked for next week. Olsen and Sunjata do a good job fitting the characters.. some of the other cast members (mostly the cops) not so much. And every episode basically has a large guest cast..
Overall, it’s a bubblegum detective series
not exactly horrible, but not exactly deep or complex in nature. I can see why some people might like it, but I’d be surprised if it stays for long.
