Synopsis
Ana, Patricia and Mayela grow up when sexuality is taboo. The protagonist, now channeled as a 65-year-old man, draws upon intertwined memories, secrets and desires, giving voice to untold experiences from the past. Category of the 97th Academy Awards in 2025. Front I left after 1 hour. I hoped it would get better, but it did not. I am a little older than the women described. Maybe I was lucky and had more choice. The experiences described were not my own. But if you want to create a work of art, you have to do more than record. There were no layers, just boring memories. How about holding these institutions accountable for this oppression? Consider who or what might be responsible? But the role of the church? What about the role of the family? What about the economic/political context? The issues raised have been done to death in many films, novels and documentaries, we need perspectives now, not just memories.
